Biography

Dmitry Dagaev has been an Associate Professor at NES since 2023. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, completed a master's degree at NES, and defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (Moscow State University, 2011). Since 2010, he has been working at the HSE University as an associate professor at the Department of Higher Mathematics, and since 2018, as the head of the Laboratory of Sports Studies at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, HSE University. In 2013-2023, he was Deputy Vice-Rector, Director for Academic Development, and Vice-Rector for Basic Research at the HSE University. He was voted "Best Professor of the HSE University" by students eight times. He is a laureate of the NES Alumni Association Award (2011) and a recipient of the HSE Badge of Honor, 2nd degree (2022). 

Dmitry's main area of research interests is tournament theory. Using methods of game theory and discrete mathematics, Dmitry solves problems of optimizing complex tournaments, including improving competitive balance, creating an optimal schedule, and analyzing incentive compatibility.

Dmitry Dagaev has extensive experience in implementing applied research. Together with Gleb Vasiliev and Arseniy Stolyarov, since 2019 he has been scheduling the Russian Premier League, in 2021 he created a recommendatory system for appointing referees for matches for the Russian Football Union, in 2022 he built a model for assessing the transfer market value of young football players for one of the leading football clubs.

Since 2010, he has been participating in the methodological commissions and jury of the leading Olympiads in economics for schoolchildren. In 2021-2023 he was a Chairman of the jury of the final stage of the National Olympiad in Economics. In 2017, he proposed the idea of the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).
