Biography

He received his BA, MA and PhD in Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and currently serves as the SAFMAR Charitable Foundation Professor at the New Economic School and as an Associate Editor at Macroeconomic Dynamics

His research interests cover economic growth and development from the household perspective. He writes about demography, poverty and inequality and is passionate about gender economics. Currently, he is working on several projects related to women's liberation and development, paternity leave and gender equality, and microfinance and poverty. Moreover, he is working on two projects related to the Russian economy: the first one is about retirement age and the second concerns gender norms. 

In 2013, he won a research grant from the Israel Science Foundation, and in 2018 he won a research grant from the Russian Science Foundation. In the beginning of 2019, he published a VoxEu column based on his paper "Women's Liberation as a Financial Innovation" (with Moshe Hazan and David Weiss), which was listed as one of the most read columns in VoxEu.
