About NES

 

The New Economic School (NES) is a private higher education and research institute that was established in 1992. NES delivers up-to-date Economics research and education, making a valuable contribution to the society and business. NES nurtures a community of world-class economists in Russia.

The quality of education at NES relies on strong faculty of Russian and foreign professors with PhDs in Economics and Finance from the world’s leading universities.

Research

There are several research centers at NES: Center for Economic and Financial Research (CEFIR), Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions (CSDSI), Center for Demographic Research (CDR). 

NES professors represent the leading edge of the Russian economic science in the world’s community of economists, participate in the key international conferences, and publish research papers in the most recognised international journals in economics, including Econometrica, American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Finance.

 

 

Faculty

More than 90% of NES professors hold a PhD degree in economics and finance from the world's leading universities. New Economic School is the first Russian university to hire professors internationally. Over 200 people a year apply for positions at NES. Candidates are interviewed at the annual meeting of AEA and AFA within the Annual International Conference of ASSA. The best candidates are invited to present their research at the Job Market Seminars at NES.

Corporate training

At the corporate education market, the School is known as NES Business Academy. Its goal is to generate additional revenue for the School's budget, as well as expand NES beyond the markets where the School is already known as a strong player. Focusing on the needs of the market, NES Business Academy offers a wide range of training formats: from one-day intensive courses to specialized programs with a total duration of 6-8 months.

NES in rankings

NES is ranked #201-250 in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 (Economics and Econometrics). New Economic School is entering the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (ARWU) in "Economics" (#301-400) for five years in a row.

NES is ranked the 1st in the Top 25% Institutions in Russia. The School is entering the Top 12.5% institutions in Europe and Top 25% Economics Departments rankings. NES ranks 18th among the universities with the largest number of students receiving doctoral degrees in economics at the top 20 universities in the USA.

New Economic School is ranked Top 10 in the “Top Russian Universities on YouTube – 2023”. NES ranks 142th among the 1042 Russian universities (Top 13%) and ranks 5190th among the 11994 world universities (Top 43%). The School  ranked 9th among the Russian universities in the RUR Subject Rankings in Social Sciences and was included in the Bronze League.

 

Graduates

Today there are more than 3000 NES graduates. About 90% of the alumni find jobs in the first three months after finishing university. About 78% work in business, mainly in companies that are known as leaders of Russian and international financial and real sector, such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and the companies that are part of the "big four" audit companies and the "big three" consulting companies; 18% – chose an academic career at MIT, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Columbia University, University of Chicago, University of Nottingham, University of California, Los Angeles, New York University, LSE, etc.; 4% of NES graduates are working in the public sector.

Development of economic education in Russia and CIS

NES trains highly qualified specialists for the Russian labor market and plays an important role in the development of economic education in Russia. NES professors also teach at the Moscow State University, RANEPA, HSE, MISIS, and others.

Every year, winter and summer education schools for teachers and researchers in different Russian cities are organized. These schools support young scientists and help them to integrate into the global scientific environment.
