At 2009, NES Commencement Ceremony, the US President Barack Obama delivered a Keynote Address.
In 2010, the School was included in the SSRN rating among the 100 best faculties of economics in the world.
Also, in 2010, NES became the first Russian university to announce a fundraising campaign to attract graduates' funds.
In 2011, the Joint undergraduate program of the Higher School of Economics and NES accepted its first students. Most of them were winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian School Competitions in Economics. The program is aimed at providing world's quality bachelor's degree in economics.
The same year, NES Writing and Communications Center was established.

In 2011, NES Center for Demographic Research was founded. The most important product of the Center is the Russian database on fertility and mortality. Since 2016, the CDR has limited its activities to supporting this database.
In 2012, NES held a Research Conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the School. Also, a series of public lectures "Classics of Economics" was organized as part of anniversary event.

In 2013, Bulgarian economist and statesman Simeon Dyankov was appointed Rector of NES.
The same year NES received a Megagrant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to create NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions (SCDSI) under the guidance of Shlomo Weber. The Center conducts research related to the impact of culture and diversity on the economic development of regions, allows students to participate in research activities and conducts summer schools.
