REGIONAL
SEMINAR FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
Money
and Economic Growth: Linking Theory and Evidence
July
2004 - September 2006
Host
Institution: New Economic School, Moscow, Russia
Location:
New Economic School, Moscow, Russia
The
project was aimed at improvement of teaching skills of 30 participants from seven
former Soviet republics in the area of monetary economics. Special emphasis was
made on the methods of empirical evaluation of existing theories, in order to
connect the seemingly abstract textbook models with reality. Participants analyzed
these methods with the resource persons during the summer and winter contact sessions,
and then performed individual projects associated with literature review or academic
research on the topics they regularly teach in their university courses. Individual
projects were connected to critical assessment of competing models and their empirical
relevance.
