In 1998,
NES set up an Outreach Center in attempt to disseminate its expertise in modern
economics to economics faculty outside of Moscow. At present, activities of the
Outreach center are temporarily suspended.
In
1998-2004 NES Outreach center used two primary methods to disseminate expertise
of NES faculty: (a) week-long workshops
in economics and econometrics financed through generous grants from Catherine
T. and John D. McArthur Foundation.; (b) long-term academic
partnership with selected economics departments at provincial universities
that includes course development, joint research projects, and placement of provincial
faculty at NES. This partnership program was suported by the Open
Society Institute.
In
2004-2006 NES participated in the Regional Seminar for Excellence in Teaching
of the Higher Education Support
Program with the Open Society Institute,
leading a project entitled "Money and Economic Growth: Linking Theory and
Evidence"
Participants
of the Economics Education and Reseacrh Concortium and
other regional scholars were able to spend a module at NES as interns:
