of ARTS in ECONOMICS
The program
of study at NES is based on the first two-years of study in leading PhD programs
in Western universities. This Western-style graduate program is supported by the
NES Research Center, where second year students participate in research
projects, and write their Master's
theses under the supervision of and in close cooperation with leading Russian
and Western scholars Preparatory
level Coursework (2 two-month modules with exams): Graduate
level Coursework (3 two-months modules with exams): Second
year Coursework (5 two-months modules with exams): - Coursework
during the second year is comparable to PhD level course offerings in Western
universities. Students take specialized courses designed to give them a mastery
of several sub fields of modern economics. Typically, the following choice of
electives is offered:
- In
the academic year 2003-2004 6 special fields were introduced:
- Finance
- Economic policy
- Data analysis
- Industrial Organization
and Trade
- Advanced Microeconomics
- Advanced Macroeconomics.
Public
Seminar: NES conducts
a weekly public seminar and regularly scheduled conferences. Presentations tend
to focus on topics related to the economic transition in Russia and other formerly
planned socialist governments. Guest speakers who have presented at the Public
Seminars include Russian Government Ministers, senior Russian Government officials,
distinguished Russian and Western academics and representatives of international
organizations and large corporations, as well as distinguished professors and
academicians from top universities.
