Since 1992, over 620 young people of Russia and former CIS countries
have graduated from the New Economic School with a Master of
Arts of Economics. Nearly 30% of the graduates have then applied
for Ph.D programs at world leading universities. The quality
of the students has been demonstrated by the success of graduates
in obtaining admission and full fellowships in top economics
departments in the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia.
NES also sends young Russian scholars with Ph.D degree in Russia
for a one-year post-doctoral training in western universities.
NES
is proud of its first Ph.D degree holders: Ekaterina Zhuravskaya,
Alexei Onatsky, Alexander Aganin (Harvard); Ksenia Yudaeva,
Andrei Sarychev (MIT); Maria Arbatskaya (Indiana); Alexander
Possajennikov (Tilburg); Stanislav Anatoliev (University of
Wisconsin-Madison); Kirill Sosunov (Australian National University);
Anna Pavlova, Andrei Shevchenko (University of Pennsylvania);
Konstantin Tyurin (Yale); Vladislav Karguine (Boston); Tatiana
Kirsanova (Oxford); Irina Dolinskaya (Cambridge); Dmitry Davydov
(University of Michigan) who have already started their professional
activities.
Currently,
there are 13 young Russian Ph.D engaged in teaching, research,
and outreach activities at NES. Eight of them are on tenure-track
faculty positions. NES plans to hire 2-4 new young faculty
members annually during the next 5 years, and is working hard
towards this goal.
NES also feels some responsibility to help other Ph.D graduates
to come back to Russia and find proper jobs. An Alumni Organization
has been set up to follow and support NES graduates and also
to gather support for NES.
The
quality of NES graduates stipulates for their demand in international
organizations (IMF, WorldBank), ministries and departments
of the Government of Russian Federation (Central Bank, Ministry
of Finance, Ministry of Trade and Economic Development), educational
institutions (MSU, MIPT, HSE), and leading business companies
(Alfa Bank, Accenture, Arthur Andersen, BCG, Ernst and Young,
EvrazHolding, JP Morgan, KPMG, McKinsey&Co, NikOil, PriceWaterhouseCoopers,
Russian Investors, Troika Dialog). Many of these organizations
approach NES to recruit.
